Keys to Engaging Faculty in ServiceLessons from West Virginias Community Design TeamMichigan State University Fostering faculty participation in scholarly public service activities requires more attention to developing appropriate structures to motivate action. This article highlights several methods of stimulating and maintaining faculty interest in service using an extended example: a university-based planning assistance program for small communities. Creating the necessary preconditions for scholarly public service requires creativity, time, and administrative commitment.
