Planning and an Education in Planning in the Czech Republic

Karel Maier

This report provides a brief account of recent and present roles, issues, and trends in planning and planning education in the Czech Republic as one of new democracies of East-Central Europe. Reform has been gradual, with changes being radical at the beginning and becoming more incremental as time passes. As responsibilities for local development are transferred to popularly- elected municipal governments, more qualified planners will be needed. Universities are now adapting to this new demand for planning professionals to respond to a new notion of planning.
